Sharingan & Mangekyou
Getting the Sharingan
- Uchiha clan: you're born with it, dormant.
- Otsutsuki clan: 30% chance, already at 3 tomoe.
- DNA Lab: the Uchiha bloodline (very rare). Like a born Uchiha, the eye arrives dormant.
The Sharingan Eyes from the Rinnegan trial don't give you the Sharingan.
Awakening it
A dormant Sharingan wakes up from an emotional shock. Either one works:
- Survive on the edge of death. Drop to 20% health or less while fighting anything: a player, an NPC, a boss, a mob, or their jutsu and projectiles. If you're still alive 3 seconds later, your eyes turn red.
- Falls, fire and the void don't count. Someone or something has to be fighting you.
- Dying before the 3 seconds are up cancels it. Try again next fight.
- Lose a comrade. A member of your party dies within 10 blocks of you.
You get a "Sharingan Awakened" message and a red aura, and the eye starts at 1 tomoe. It only happens once. After that, it levels from time active.

Sharingan Copy (A-rank) isn't unlocked by tomoe. Obito Uchiha teaches it in the Sharingan Copy questline (level 300+, Sharingan with 2 tomoe). See Quests.
Mangekyou Sharingan
The trial
Talk to the Mysterious Uchiha in Story Mode at level 475+. He offers the Mangekyou trial: a re-enactment of the Uchiha massacre.
- Once it starts there's no walking out.
- Dying is part of it: you go back to the start of the phase and keep going.
- The phases run in the real world, then again inside Itachi's Tsukuyomi.
- At the end you awaken a random Mangekyou.

Eternal Mangekyou
- How: reach Mangekyou level 3, then use the Mangekyou for 72h in total.
- Your eye: it keeps its design. Itachi's and Sasuke's become Sasuke's EMS, and Izuna's and Madara's become Madara's EMS.
- Cures: every overuse side effect, for good.
- Unlocks: Susano'o Stage 4 (Armored), and Stage 5 (Perfect) with 800 Chakra Control and 1100 Ninjutsu.
Rinnegan
The Eternal Mangekyou is the only road to the Rinnegan. Use it for 48h, then enter the Rinnegan trial (only Eternal Mangekyou wielders can) and implant 2 Sharingan Eyes and a Hashirama Cell. See Rinnegan.
